The St Andrews

Academic Wedding

Taking place on the mossy and cobbled stones of St Salvator’s, the standalone Pier on east sands, or the wee romantic beach shadowed by our castle, the St Andrews "academic marriage" is a quietly enduring bond, protecting and honouring our ancient academic traditions and student identity.

It's an arbitrary, symbolic, yet powerful and loving agreement, to raise incoming academic children, and help integrate the our Bejants into the novelty of University life.

This 600-year-old rite of passage pairs centuries of Scottish history with the raw, cider-soaked candidness of student life — where Haribo ring proposals and red-gowned officiators bridge the gap between century-old traditions and modern student chaos.
