Conservational Grazing
Highland cows are used to graze the saltwater marshes of the Scottish costal land. This specific composition of salinity, vegetation and rainfall, provide a unique biological-microenvironment for organisms to thrive in; such that the saltwater marshes have been listed as an special area of scientific interest (SSSI). Highland cows help maintain this environment with their natural behaviour, eating specific types of vegetation while leaving others be. Additionally treading on some invasive and disruptive plants to limit their growth and accelerate their breakdown to protect the unique ecological role these Scottish coasts play in fostering rare habitats.
